The Springtime Sunday Drive

Sunday, April 10th, 2005 We decided today we would pack a lunch and take a drive to see some parts of the state we had not been to in a few years. We started out in Lewiston, Maine (with out the gps the best I can do is get the lat-long off the map) Some where around 44°05'-70°10'. We crossed town to the west and fueled up the truck and the Jerry can in Auburn, Maine. We wrote down the mileage and headed out of town on some back roads till we reached route 119n. We followed this to South Paris where we joined route 26n up to route 232n to route 2e. This placed us in Rumford, Maine. (44°32'-70°33') We stopped at the town park that is built at the Rumford Falls on the Androscoggin River.

The water was roaring over the dams and was an amazing sight to see. We jumped back into the Blazer and headed north on route 17. We stopped at Coo's Canyon. It is a gorge that is right next to the road. The Swift River cut through the granite ledges to form this sight.

Of course the first thing I see when getting out of the Blazer at Coo's Canyon is this sign. Now after reading I felt compelled to show it to the world. Yes my friends you can get fined in Maine for putting Trash into a Trash can.

It is my belief that sign should be moved into the...

Back into the Blazer and down the road we go. I snap a picture of Beaver Pond on the way up route 17.

We stopped at a scenic turnout at 44°50'-70°42'. The view was unbelievable. The pictures just do not do this justice. The altitude of the look out is 2420' above sea level and Mooselookmeguntick Lake (pronounced just as it is spelled and was given for the words you will say) below, is at 1467' above sea level.

We got back into the Blazer and drove for just a few minutes to Rangeley Lake scenic turnout. 44°54'-70°42'

We continued up route 17 to Oquossoc, Maine where we got on to route 16 east. We followed route 16 to Stratton, Maine where we followed 27 south, to Farmington, Maine where we stopped for lunch, before returning to Auburn by way of route 4 south. In Auburn, we stopped at the same gas station we had left a few hours earlier and filled the Blazer. Ironically we drove EXACTLY 200 miles according to the Blazers odometer. I put in 13 gallons exactly. So that means the Blazer had gotten just better than 15.3 miles per gallon of gas. That is 3 mpg better than it had ever gotten with the 750 cfm carburetor. The new 600 cfm carburetor is proving to be a worth while investment. It was a great day for everyone and it has been a pleasure to show you around a part of the State of Maine.
