I've seen lift kits for around $500 on summit such as pro comp or skyjackker, are they leaving that much stuff out of their kits?

If your're looking at a 4" kit; it should have: at minimum...

    Front springs - new bushungs
    Rear blocks
    U-bolts
    Shocks
    Ext brakelines
    raised steering arm
    Tcase drop
Replacing any suspension parts that may be worn out - tie rods ends-ball joints-steering linkage-brake job...these parts are going to be working a bit harder as a result of the life.

    If you want to upgrade:

    Rear springs or shackle flip
    better quality shocks
After that the options are limitless.....

Now add the cost of shipping - install if needed and your wheels and tires, mounted-balanced and alighned.

Still have not got a lift, for the old girl, but will at some point, I hope.
Have a great day, and be blessed.
